1 Chronicles 29:9 (ESV): “9 Then the people rejoiced because they had given willingly, for with a whole heart they had offered freely to the Lord. David the king also rejoiced greatly.”
God is a generous God. He freely gives because He fiercely loves. We are made in His image. We too, should freely give as an expression of our love back to Him.
After instructing Solomon about building the Temple, David turned to the people of Israel and asked for their help. He said, “My son is young and inexperienced, and the work is great, so help him.” David went on to list all the supplies he had gathered already for the building. He then asked, “Who then will offer willingly, consecrating himself today to the Lord?” The people of Israel gave freely and rejoiced greatly, for they were blessed to contribute something to the Lord’s house.
How do you give to God? Your attitude in how you offer tells the story of your heart. We are reminded, “Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver (2 Cor 9:6-7).” If you can't rejoice in your giving, then you aren't giving with the right heart. Reflect on all the things God has freely given you, and perhaps that will change your heart.
Father, we thank You for giving us life and that more abundantly through Your Son. Keep our hearts grateful so we can give freely and rejoice in our offering ls we pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
