Genesis 2:1-3

Genesis 2:1–3 (ESV): “Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 3 So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.”

God has always supported a six day work week.   However on the seventh day even He rested.  How much more should we make sure we have margin to rest one day a week?

Moses records (by way of revelation) the  six day creation story.  Many debate if it was six literal days or six geological ages.  The plainest and simplest meaning of the word day is a literal day.  There is no need to think anything more about it. In six literal days God said “let there be” and there was.  He created light, space, dry land, the sun, moon and stars, as well as every creature on the earth.  On the sixth day God said, “let us make man in our imagine, according to our likeness (Gen 1:26).”   This again speaks of the Triune God working in perfect unity during creation.   We know Jesus existed before anything was created because the NT declares Him as Creator (Col 1:15-17; Heb 1:2; Jn 1:3; 1 Cor 8:6).  So God created man and woman in His image and told them to be fruitful and multiply and to subdue the land.  All of creation was subject to them.  Interesting enough, they were only given fruit and vegetables to eat and thus the world was vegetarian before the fall.   On the seventh day God rested.   It wasn’t because God needed rest, it was because He was giving us an example of work/life balance.  We must not work every day all day.  Our bodies need time for rest, not for the sake of law but for the sake of health.

Christian, God is the same yesterday, today and forever.  If He can create the world in six days can He not handle your situation, no matter how big it might be.   God is omnipotent, all-powerful and able to do anything with but a word.  Surrender yourself to His will and look to Him for help .  He is able.  He will say “let there be” and it will be as He said.  Seek Him, wait on Him.  He will never fail you.

Father we thank You for recoding the creation account for us.  We know that You designed and created the world and everything in it.  You are all powerful and more than able to handle our greatest needs.  Would You meet us where we are today?  Will You fill our hearts with hope and belief?  Remove doubt and speak into our lives.   We surrender to You even now in Jesus name we pray, amen.
