Genesis 1:1 (ESV): “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
In a world full of confusion regarding our origin the Bible brings absolute clarity. God created the heavens and the earth and everything within them. Boom 💥mystery solved!
Moses pens for us the creation account. In the beginning there was God who had no beginning. He was and is and will always be. If you can get passed the first four words of Genesis 1:1 the you ought not have any problem believing rest of the Bible, namely that God spoke the world into existence! The term God here is the ancient world Elohim which is a plural word used as if it were singular indicating that Moses was writing about a Triune God, 3 in 1, who created the world. The heavens He created are massive. There are an estimated 200 billion stars in just our universe alone. God hung each and every one individually to create constellations. Only He knows how many universes there are.
When He created the earth He made it the right size and placed it intentionally. The earth is the perfect distance from the Sun so that life could be sustainable. None of this was by chance. It was all designed by God. This is His world, and we are His creation. May we always acknowledge Him and not the Universe or Mother Nature. God deserves all the glory for what He has done.
Take a moment and look up at the stars or look around at the incredible things God has created. His fingerprints are everywhere. This is just a small picture of how awesome He is. Paul wrote in Romans 1:20 “For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” You want to know God more, look around and you will see His attention to detail, His creativity and His gracious love! Creation itself is evidence of who He is. What a wonderful Creator and God we serve.
Father we thank You for the creation account. What a faith builder for us. We see Your handiwork all around us. You are truly amazing. May we stand in awe of who You are and may our trust always be in You as Creator and never in creation. You are the One who is worthy of all honor and glory and power. Let our lives be lived in such a way that Your attributes could be seen in us we pray in Jesus name, amen!
