Mark 1:14-15

Mark 1:14-15 (ESV): “14 Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, 15 and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.””

God’s prophetic plan is tied to a specific timeline, and nothing can frustrate or overturn it. When the time is fulfilled, God brings about the next step of His plan. In this case, that next step was sending His Son to declare the gospel of God.

At about thirty years of age, Jesus’ public ministry began. His first step was to be baptized. His baptism was not because He needed repentance, but because He was identifying with sinners and fulfilling all righteousness. He was also empowered by the Spirit for the work of ministry. The promises of the Old Covenant were now being fulfilled, for the King had come and the kingdom of God was at hand. The message Jesus proclaimed was clear: “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”

Do you realize that God is working according to His perfect timing in your life, just as He is in His overall prophetic plan? We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Yet those opportunities do not come according to our timing, but His. We, too, have been given the gospel to proclaim, and every interaction and opportunity we have is from God. Nothing is by chance. He is working out His will for us according to His plan. So we must be ready, for we never know when the time will come for us to fulfill the purposes He has placed before us.

Father, thank You for working out Your plan for our lives in Your perfect time. Keep us ready and watchful so that we do not miss the opportunities You place before us. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
