Matthew 11:28-30 (ESV): “28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
This world has a way of wearing us out. Whether it’s a burden we put on ourselves or one that others place on us, the weight can be crushing. Jesus invites us to lay those burdens down and rest in Him!
The invitation that Jesus gives here is insane. He is literally pointing people to Himself. No one else can do that but God. He then promises that all who come to Him will have their burdens lifted, which is a tall order. He isn’t saying that all hardship goes away, but rather that the burdens that come afterward are designed for our betterment (James 1:2–4). Jesus says, “Take My yoke upon you,” and you will find rest for your souls.
Are you weary and heavy laden? If so, Jesus is your remedy. He said so Himself! Come to Jesus today and lay your burdens at His feet. He will release you from bondage and give you a yoke that is easy and a burden that is light. In other words, Jesus will carry the load. Come to Jesus today, and you will find true rest for your weary soul. Amen?
Father, we thank You for doing all the heavy lifting for us. We are buried in sin and shame apart from You. Thank You for providing rest for our souls through Your Son. All glory and praise be to You forever and ever. In Jesus’ name, amen.
