1 Kings 3:3

1 Kings 3:3 (ESV): 3 Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of David his father, only he sacrificed and made offerings at the high places.

Loving God doesn't mean one will be perfect.  However, it is safe to say that the more you love God, the less likely you are to walk outside of His will.  So love God more!

After David died Solomon took the reigns as king of Israel.  After he dealt with some insurrectionists, he made arrangements to be married to a foreign woman, the daughter of Pharaoh. Although it was commonplace in this culture, it was against the law of God (1 Kgs 11:1-4).  Solomon did love God, but his vice was women.  He also made unsanctioned sacrifices at the altar of the high places, but God was merciful to him because he loved God.  His heart was aimed upward and that made all the difference.

Do you know what your vices are?  The way to overcome them is to love God more. Jesus said it like this, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments (Jn 14:15).”   Specifically, love God in those areas that have a hold of you.  Make Him your pleasure and satisfaction.  Nothing in the world can compare to loving God.  There is much power in this.  You won't become sinless, but you should sin less.   Amen?

Father,  thank You for loving us.  May we love you back with our whole being, heart, soul, strength, and mind.  You are our all in all may we live like that we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
