Isaiah 50:2b

Isaiah 50:2b (ESV): “Is my hand shortened, that it cannot redeem? Or have I no power to deliver?”

A.W. Tozer once said, “God possesses what no creature can: an incomprehensible plenitude of power, a potency that is absolute.” There is nothing beyond God’s ability. That means He can save the wickedest of men and deliver us from the most hopeless situations. He is able to do exceedingly abundantly more because He is the Almighty. Nothing is too hard for Him.

Isaiah declares that although Israel will be taken captive, God is still able to save and deliver. He is never in a situation He cannot overcome. With but a word, He can speak and it will be done. He accomplishes His will in accordance with His plan. Israel is right where God wants and needs them. They are being chastised for disobedience, but God will not put them to shame. He will save and deliver them from their enemies. There is still hope—because God is still on His throne!

Have you ever been in a situation where you lost hope? Maybe it was concerning the salvation of a loved one. You thought, “There is no way this person could ever get saved—they’re too far gone.” Hey, understand this: God’s arm is not too short to save. Maybe you were placed in a circumstance that seemed hopeless—like a diagnosis or a financial crisis. If God can deliver you from the clutches of sin and death, can He not deliver you from anything? Look to Him and do not lose hope. He is God! He is able—so don’t lose heart.

Father, thank You for being the God of the impossible. Work in our lives as You will. Though our circumstances may seem too big for us, they are no match for You. Save those who have been given up on, and deliver those who have no hope—that You might receive all the glory. We pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
