Job 2:9-10

Job 2:9–10 (ESV): “Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die.” But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Shall we receive good from God, and shall we not receive evil?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.”

There is never a scenario in the lives of humanity where it is appropriate to curse God. Our present sufferings, as great as they might be, are not worth comparing to the glory that will be revealed to us (Romans 8:18). Don’t lose hope in the midst of suffering!

After all of Job’s possessions, servants, and children were taken away, his body was struck with boils by the enemy. The Lord, apparently bragging to Satan about Job’s response to the first round of trials, allowed Satan to strike Job’s body—but he was not permitted to kill him. When Job’s wife saw his painful boils, she said, “Do you still hold fast your integrity? Curse God and die.” She had lost hope because of the circumstances they were facing. However, Job remained faithful to God.

Have you ever cursed God because of the trials in your life? Losing hope can lead to this kind of response. Guard yourself against hopelessness in the midst of your trials. God is on your side. He didn’t promise us a life free of pain; He promised us that we would face suffering, but He also assured us that our present sufferings are nothing compared to the glory that awaits us.  Stay the course, like Job. Do not lose hope in your trials. Keep praising the Lord—praise will sustain your hope. He is worthy of our praise, even in hard times.

Father, we thank You that You are with us through it all. Keep our hearts praising You in all things, so that we may remain hopeful no matter what we face. Fill us with Your Spirit, so we can flourish even in our trials. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
