Psalm 101:3-4

Writer's picture: Tim RomeroTim Romero

Psalm 101:3–4 (ESV): “3  I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me. 4  A perverse heart shall be far from me; I will know nothing of evil.”

Success in the Christian life hinges on our willingness to walk in the Spirit rather than the flesh. It’s a choice only we can make and one that requires constant vigilance.

It is believed that David penned this psalm when he became king of Israel. His words reflect a commitment to living a life that honors God by being intentional about what we allow into our lives. It’s a reminder that holiness doesn’t happen by accident—it requires deliberate choices.

Do the choices you make daily draw you closer to the Lord? It’s so easy to get distracted by things that draw us away.  God desires a better life for us.  He has given us His Spirit so that we can experience the freedom and the fullness of life . May we have the same resolve as David: to reject what is worthless and cling only to what is good, pure, and holy.  Amen?

Father, thank You for reminding us of the war we are in. Reveal anything that is drawing us away from You, and give us the strength to let it go. Fill our minds with what is true and good so that our lives reflect Your holiness. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
