Psalm 116:16–17 (ESV): “16 O Lord, I am your servant; I am your servant, the son of your maidservant. You have loosed my bonds. 17 I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the Lord.”
Recognizing your calling is a crucial part of life’s journey. When you understand that you are God’s servant, surrendering to His will becomes easier, leading to a life of true purpose and fulfillment. Know your place!
The psalmist boldly declares himself as God’s servant—a bondservant in the deepest sense. Though set free by God, he willingly surrendered himself fully to His will. On the night of His betrayal, Jesus sang this very song. Though He had complete freedom, He chose to become the Father’s bondservant, even unto death.
If you are in Christ, you have been set free. But what are you doing with your freedom? Have you laid it at the feet of Jesus and embraced the call to be His bondservant? This is the only way to truly live out your redeemed life. Ask yourself today: Who is really in control of my life? If the answer is anyone other than Jesus, I urge you to repent and re-surrender to Him. Trust that His way is always best. Will you give Him full control?
Father, we thank You for the freedom You have given us through Your Son. We surrender our will to Yours and ask that You use our lives for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
