Luke 2:48-49

Luke 2:48-49: “48 And when his parents saw him, they were astonished. And his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us so? Behold, your father and I have been searching for you in great distress.” 49 And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?””

Sometimes doing the Father’s will means going against the will of man. That’s not rebellion—it’s obedience! We must be about the Father’s business and refuse to live simply to please people.

At twelve years old, Jesus went with His family to Jerusalem for Passover. When His parents began their journey home, they assumed He was with their relatives. After realizing He was missing, they returned to Jerusalem and found Him three days later in the Temple, sitting among the teachers and astonishing them with His understanding and answers. His mother asked why He had treated them this way. Jesus replied, “Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?”

Are you about the Father’s business? Are you living to please Jesus, or do you allow people’s approval to determine your decisions? When pleasing God and pleasing people are not compatible, choose God’s will. Jesus modeled this priority even at twelve years old. His Father’s will came first. May we follow His example.

Father, thank You for revealing Your will to us. Help us pursue it through faith and obedience. We pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
