Mark 12:34:“And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions.”

It’s been said that some will miss heaven by eighteen inches—the distance from the head to the heart. Having an understanding of the Gospel is wonderful, but you must wholly and fully surrender to it in order for it to take effect.

After Jesus answered the Sadducees’ question about marriage after death, a scribe asked Him, “What is the greatest commandment?” Jesus replied, “Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. The second is love your neighbor as yourself.” Jesus said there are no greater commandments than these. The scribe wholeheartedly agreed that loving God and people is far more important than burnt offerings and sacrifices. Jesus then told him he wasn’t far from the Kingdom of God. All he needed to do now was surrender to Jesus.

Isn’t it wild that people can know they are sinners in need of a Savior, even realize Jesus is that Savior, and still not surrender to Him? Don’t let that be your story. You must surrender your life to Jesus if you want to receive eternal life. He died for you and rose again. Not only do you need to know that, but you must also be crucified with Him. Don’t miss heaven by eighteen inches! Surrender to Jesus today and enter the Kingdom. Amen?

Father, thank You for the only sacrifice that can save our souls. Your Son is all we need. Let us not trust in religion or anything else, but in the finished work of Your Son for our salvation. We pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
