Mark 14:17-19

Pastor Tim Romero
Mark 14:17-18:“17And when it was evening, he came with the twelve. 18And as they were reclining at table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me, one who is eating with me.” 19They began to be sorrowful and to say to him one after another, “Is it I?””
There is a betrayer that lives in all of us. In the flesh, we are all capable of unthinkable things. So guard your heart diligently and walk in the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.
That evening, Jesus and His disciples gathered in an upper room to eat the Passover meal. As they were reclining at the table, Jesus said, “One of you will betray me.” One by one the disciples asked Jesus, “Is it I?” None of them presumed themselves incapable of such a thing. Jesus was speaking of Judas. Although the others had the capacity to fall, Judas gave himself over to it and betrayed the Lord.
Do you understand the capacity for sin that exists within you? If you don’t guard your heart, you can find yourself in places you should not be, doing things you should not be doing. Beware, Christian. Nothing good comes from walking according to the flesh, and if you give yourself over to it, it will lead you into sin. Walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh. He is the power we need to overcome the desires of our sinful nature and remain faithful to Jesus.
Father, thank You for loving us in spite of ourselves. What a gracious and kind God You are. Protect us from walking in the evil we are capable of in the flesh. Fill us with Your Spirit and give us the strength and wisdom not to give way to the flesh. We pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
