1 Kings 11:11–12 (ESV): “11 Therefore the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this has been your practice and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant. 12 Yet for the sake of David your father I will not do it in your days, but I will tear it out of the hand of your son.”
All sin has consequences. You might not realize it immediately but understand there are ramifications both physically and spiritually when it comes to sin. Pray that God will keep on His path and in His light.
Solomon’s wisdom was spoken of all over the world. He experienced great wealth and honor. However, Solomon got distracted by horses and women. He built a vast army and took on many wives from other nations. These were the very things God instructed him not to do. His consequence was a stripping of his throne. God would divide the nation of Israel into two camps, the Northern Kingdom and the Southern Kingdom. Solomon’s descendants would rule in Judah only because of the promise made to David.
Are you “getting away” with your sin? Don't mistake God’s silence for His approval. He may not have taken action yet but He will. The better choice is to repent and stop sinning. It doesn't mean the consequence will go away but it is the right choice. Sin can only lead to hardship and death. Return to the Lord and live for Him.
Father, You are incredibly gracious to us. Thank You! Forgive us for our transgressions and deliver us from evil. We choose this day to return and live for You in Jesus' name, amen.
