2 Chronicles 18:12–13 (ESV): “12 And the messenger who went to summon Micaiah said to him, “Behold, the words of the prophets with one accord are favorable to the king. Let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak favorably.” 13 But Micaiah said, “As the Lord lives, what my God says, that I will speak.”
Speaking on behalf of God is a serious matter. We should speak unapologetically about whatever He puts on our hearts to say. Remember, we are called to be His messengers.
Jehoshaphat and Ahab king of Israel became allies through marriage. Thus, Jehoshaphat proclaimed to Ahab that Judah would go to war with them. So Ahab took him up on his offer and asked Jehosaphat to join Israel in fighting the king of Syria. Jehoshaphat said, “Let’s inquire of the Lord first.” All the prophets spoke false assurances to the kings about their victory, except Micaiah. Ahab knew he would speak against him, yet they inquired of him anyway and sure enough, the Lord said that they would be defeated. Macaiah was hated because he spoke the truth.
Do you speak falsely to those who are perishing? The Lord has given us a message of hope amid sure defeat. It's called the Gospel, and it calls all men to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation. Only those who put their trust in Jesus will be delivered from the condemnation that awaits the unredeemed. Deliver the message, Christian! Don't sugarcoat the Word of God. You might be hated for it, but tell people the truth, for the truth will set them free.
Father, we thank You for speaking the truth to us always. You don't withhold the reality of the unbelieving. Fill our hearts with boldness that we might say what You’ve called us to say in these last days we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
