2 Chronicles 2:17-18

2 Chronicles 2:17–18 (ESV): 17 Then Solomon counted all the resident aliens who were in the land of Israel, after the census of them that David his father had taken, and there were found 153,600. 18 Seventy thousand of them he assigned to bear burdens, 80,000 to quarry in the hill country, and 3,600 as overseers to make the people work.

God is a worker, and we should be the same.  Whether we are born into the land we reside in or resident aliens, we should be workers unto the glory of God.

After David died, Solomon prepared to do as his father instructed.  He would build God’s house and a palace for himself.   He went to work by gathering supplies and rallying the workforce.   He took the “resident aliens” (possibly Cannaites who were not cast out during the time of Joshua and other non-citizens of Israel) and put them to work.  If they lived in the land, they were to work for the betterment of the nation.  Everyone had a part to play.

Did you know your work reflects the Lord?  The quality of your work makes a statement about the God that you serve.  You’re not working for man but for the Lord. So do whatever you do for the glory of His name!  Don't be lazy or expect a handout.  Work hard and do your best.  Use your earthly skills to preach a sermon to those around you.  Christians should be the best employees in any workplace, for we work as unto the Lord.

Father, we thank You for showing us what it means to work.  Help us to do all that we do for your glory.  You deserve nothing less than our all.  Fill us we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
