2 Chronicles 28:22-23

2 Chronicles 28:22–23 (ESV): 22 In the time of his distress, he became yet more faithless to the Lord—this same King Ahaz. 23 For he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus that had defeated him and said, “Because the gods of the kings of Syria helped them, I will sacrifice to them that they may help me.” But they were the ruin of him and of all Israel.

If you don’t learn the lesson the first time, God is faithful to give you the test again. Save yourself some trouble and just do what is right in the eyes of the Lord.

When Ahaz became king of Judah, he was twenty years old. He didn’t do what was right in the eyes of the Lord but chose to walk in idolatry like the kings of Israel. He made metal images for the Baals and offered his sons in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom. Thus, the Lord brought judgment on him, giving him over to the king of Syria. Rather than run to God, Ahaz ran to the king of Assyria for help. He then turned to the gods of Syria and offered sacrifices to them. He ran everywhere but to God! He died in that state. He never learned the lesson.

When trouble comes, do you run away from or to God? He uses trouble to direct us. Sometimes it’s to strengthen us, but often it’s a means of correction. All we need to do to avoid these situations is to do what is right in the eyes of the Lord. If you haven’t learned the lesson yet, know this: God is faithful to give you the test over and over again until you pass. Obedience is the key to passing. Just do what He says, amen?

Father, we thank You for being so faithful to us. Forgive us for walking in our own ways, and help us to learn the lessons quickly, that You may be glorified in our lives, we pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
