2 Kings 22:10-11

2 Kings 22:10–11 (ESV): “10 Then Shaphan the secretary told the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it before the king. 11 When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his clothes.”

God’s Word (the Bible) is the most important possession of mankind.  No other book has the power to change the eternal status of the reader.  No wonder the enemy tries to downplay and invalidate it.

After Hezekiah died, his son Manasseh reigned. He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, for the Word had no place in his heart.   Some believe that Manasseh destroyed all the known copies of the Word in Judah.  Thankfully, a copy was preserved.  It was found some seventy-five years later, during the reign of Josiah.  When King Josiah heard the Word he tore his clothes for he realized that the people of Judah had gone astray.  The Word produced a revival in Josiah’s heart and the people of Judah.

How much time do you invest in reading the Word?  What kind of role does it play in your life?  It’s been said that a Bible that is falling apart belongs to a person that is not!  Invest in knowing the Word of God friend.  It will yield eternal rewards in your life. The Word will transform your heart and mind.  It will give you guidance and direction.  If you are lacking wisdom or feeling lost, get in the Word!  Perhaps it will revive your heart as well.

Father, we thank You for giving us Your Word.  Put a strong desire in our hearts to know it and apply it.  Open our eyes to the greatest treasure we’ve been given in life, we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
