DAY 10 – OUTPOURING
“28 “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. 29 Even on the male and female servants in those days I will pour out my Spirit.”
– Joel 2:28-29 –
Jesus said that it was to our benefit that He go away, for if He didn’t die, rise, and ascend, the Holy Spirit could not come and indwell us, nor could He be poured out upon us. The very day Jesus rose again from the dead He appeared to the disciples in the upper room and “breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit” (Jn 20:22). They were born again, and the Holy Spirit came inside of them. Then He said in Acts 1:8 “8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Ten days after Jesus said this, on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came “upon” His disciples with power and tongues of fire and three thousand people got saved. It was empowerment of the purpose of witness. Peter then quoted this verse as an inauguration and the beginning fulfillment of this prophecy. It will ultimately be fulfilled in the Tribulation Period.
If we want to be witnesses for Christ, we too need the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Pray that we would wait for His empowerment before we ever dare take a step into the world. Then pray we would go in His power proclaiming the mighty love of God. Pray that everything we plan and execute is of the Spirit. Pray for those in our body to experience the personal outpouring of the Spirit, and that He would manifest the gifts (1 Co. 12) in our midst for His glory and never for our own.
“If the Holy Spirit was withdrawn from the church today, 95 percent of what we do would go on and no one would know the difference. If the Holy Spirit had been withdrawn from the New Testament church, 95 percent of what they did would stop, and everybody would know the difference.”
