21 Days of Prayer and Fasting - Day 17

DAY 17 - AWAKENING

“13 But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, 14 for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore, it says “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

– Ephesians 5:13-14 –

When Christians are light, the light exposes sin and gives unbelievers the opportunity to awake from the dead! Our nation has experienced waves of great awakening in the past few centuries. From the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries, historians and theologians have documented four Great Awakenings.

The first Great Awakening began in the 1730’s through ministers such as Solomon Stoddard and George Whitfield.

The second Great Awakening occurred in the late eighteenth century lasting until the mid-nineteenth century.

The third occurred during the mid-nineteenth century to beginning of the twentieth, while the fourth Great Awakening occurred during the 70’s, and it was typically referred to as the Jesus Movement.

This Great Awakening is part of the heritage of Calvary Chapel. God has a heart to awaken the dead and bring them to life. The Lord does not wish that any should perish but that all should reach repentance (2 Peter 3:9b). If history is any indication of some established timeline for awakenings, it would seem that we are nearing yet another one at any time now.

Pray for the Spirit of God to come in might and power upon our nation and unveil the Gospel to those who are blind. Pray He would awaken dead hearts one more time before the return of Christ. Pray this move of the Spirit would be the greatest and most powerful move ever seen! Make yourself available to Him that He might flow through you convicting the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.

“Give me one hundred preachers who fear nothing but sin and desire nothing but God, and I care not whether they be clergymen or laymen, they alone will shake the gates of Hell and set up the kingdom of Heaven upon Earth.”

– John Wesley –
