DAY 19 - ISRAEL
“6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! “May they be secure who love you! 7 Peace be within your walls and security within your towers!” 8 For my brothers and companions’ sake I will say, “Peace be within you!” 9 For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your good.”
– Psalm 122:6-9 –
David exhorted pilgrims coming to the Holy City to pray for peace. Israel as a nation has a special place in God’s economy. He promised Abraham that He would give him a land and a people, and that blessings and cursing would result in how others treated his descendants (Gen 12:3). He has kept His promise; however, it hasn’t come without adversity. Israel has long been at war with various nations, but nothing compares to the turmoil she finds herself in today. On May 14th, 1948, the Islamic nations went nuts. They would like nothing more than to wipe Israel from the map. God will not allow that to happen. He has a plan for Israel. He will turn His eyes back to her in the seven-year tribulation period. He is faithful to His promises. That also means those who bless Israel will still be blessed, and those who curse her will be cursed.
Pray first and foremost for the hearts of every Israelite that they would come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior. Without Jesus no one, including an Israelite, can enter the Kingdom of God. Pray for the eyes and hearts of the people to be opened, that the Ezra of their day would stand and make sense of the Scriptures that repentance and faith might fall upon them. Pray for peace in the land. Pray that God will guide their Prime Minister and the leaders of Israel to not comprise for the sake of peace, but that they would stand their ground under the wing of God Himself against the evil tyranny that opposes her.
“When you pray for the peace of Jerusalem, you want to pray for Israel to be strong & safe and secure, but you also want to pray for compassion and protection & justice for the Palestinians & the neighbors throughout the region.”
