Matthew 26:39

Matthew 26:39 (ESV): “And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.””

God has created us with a very specific purpose in mind. We will never know that purpose unless we surrender our will to His. It is in this surrender that we truly discover what we were made for.

The time was now at hand for Jesus to pay the penalty for the sins of the world. He was driven to the Garden of Gethsemane that night not by routine or chance, but by the will of the Father. The things that would unfold there were part of God’s plan for Jesus. He must be betrayed so that He could be crucified. Jesus knew this, and rather than complain about it, He prayed in full surrender to His Father. “Not My will,” He said, “but Yours be done.” Jesus was completely sold out to the Father’s will His whole life. It is the only way to step into your calling.

Are you surrendered to the Father’s will for your life? We know we are when we go places and do things out of obedience rather than desire. It is okay to ask God if there is another way. If He says no, as He did with Jesus, then we must submit and obey. We are called to be followers. This means we allow God to lead us wherever He desires. This is the only way to become who He has intended for you to be. Stop walking in your own will and surrender to His. Be all in, no matter what. Amen?

Father, thank You for having a plan for each of us. Keep us mindful of this daily and help us remain in sync with Your will. May we surrender to what You desire to do in and through us. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
