Ezekiel 28:25 (ESV): ““Thus says the Lord God: When I gather the house of Israel from the peoples among whom they are scattered, and manifest my holiness in them in the sight of the nations, then they shall dwell in their own land that I gave to my servant Jacob.”
The promise to regather the nation of Israel has been partially fulfilled, but it will find its ultimate fulfillment in the Millennial Kingdom. In the meantime, the present regathering is nothing short of a miracle, demonstrating that God still has a plan for this nation.
Ezekiel prophesied that Israel would one day be regathered to her homeland. This is what’s called a telescoping prophecy. The near fulfillment came after the seventy years of captivity in Babylon. A further fulfillment occurred on May 14, 1948, when Israel became a nation once again. The final and complete fulfillment will take place during the Millennial Kingdom, still in the future. God was declaring that He continues to have a plan for Israel and that He will keep His promises to her!
Do you believe God is finished with the nation of Israel? Is modern Israel the same as ancient Israel? There are many ideas surrounding this question—but what does Scripture say? In Genesis 12 and 15, God promised Abraham 300,000 square miles of land. Israel has never possessed the full extent of that promise. It will not be fulfilled until the Millennial Kingdom. Consider Revelation 7 & 14, the calling of the 144,000 witnesses in the Tribulation, chosen from the twelve tribes of Israel! If God were finished with Israel, then these passages would have to be treated as allegory, which is very dangerous. As Pastor Chuck often said: “When the literal sense makes perfect sense, make no other sense, lest you make nonsense.”
Is modern Israel “good”? That’s irrelevant! Israel has never truly been good, has it? The better question is: “Does God keep His covenants?” The answer is a resounding yes. He is faithful even when we are not. God is not done with Israel. Amen?
Father, lead us into all truth and keep us from deception. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
