Ezekiel 8:12-13

Ezekiel 8:12-13 (ESV):12 Then he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, each in his room of pictures? For they say, ‘The Lord does not see us, the Lord has forsaken the land.’ ” 13 He said also to me, “You will see still greater abominations that they commit.”

The Lord is not fooled by a religious façade. We are bare and naked before Him. He sees our hearts in full view. Nothing is hidden from Him.

At the beginning of chapter 8, Ezekiel sees a vision of the Lord. He is caught up between heaven and earth, and visions of the Temple are revealed to him. Everywhere he looks, he sees images of the abominations that the house of Israel is committing against God. The Spirit then shows Ezekiel that the priests of Israel are living in utter darkness—worshiping idols and images in their homes and in their hearts. They believe that because God is judging them, He is no longer paying attention to their personal lives. Wrong!

How are you living your private life behind closed doors? Just because you haven’t been caught doesn’t mean no one is watching. The Lord sees it all, and He brings to light what is done in secret. If you’re stumbling in your private life, repent. Turn away from the darkness and turn to Christ. He is waiting for you with open arms. Don’t run from the light—run to the light. Amen?

Father, we know that sin separates us from You. Search our hearts and reveal any darkness so we can be made right with You. Thank You for loving us the way You do. We turn our hearts fully to You now, in Jesus’ name, amen.
