Ezra 3:12-13

Ezra 3:12–13 (ESV): 12 But many of the priests and Levites and heads of fathers’ houses, old men who had seen the first house, wept with a loud voice when they saw the foundation of this house being laid, though many shouted aloud for joy, 13 so that the people could not distinguish the sound of the joyful shout from the sound of the people’s weeping, for the people shouted with a great shout, and the sound was heard far away.

There are no better tears to shed than tears of joy. God is so good to us that we should shed these tears often.

After Zerubbabel led the remnant back to Judah, they built an altar and started to offer sacrifices to God. He then engaged workers and gathered supplies for the rebuilding of the Temple. In the second year of their return, they began to lay the foundation for the Temple. When the priests and the elders saw it, they began to weep loudly, for they were overwhelmed with joy. Many also shouted for joy and began to praise the Lord. Their joy could be heard from far away.

When was the last time you were so overjoyed by something the Lord was doing in your life? It’s easy to take God for granted and to overlook the foundation He is laying within us. Take a moment to think about all the great things God has done and give Him praise today. You might even shed a tear or two when you think about the goodness of God. Amen?

Father, thank You for being so, so good to us. Thank You for saving us and drawing us back to Yourself when we stray. We would be lost without You. God, we love You. In Jesus’ name, amen and amen!
