Isaiah 31:1 (ESV): “Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the Lord!”
We wrestle not against flesh and blood! So trusting in fleshly weaponry to fight against principalities and powers is like trusting a house of cards to withstand gale-force winds. We need power from on high to obtain victory—and God promises just that! Trust in Him!
Through the prophet Isaiah, the Lord once again reminds Judah how offensive it is to fight against Him and place their trust in human solutions. They would be taken into captivity because of their rebellion and refusal to follow the Lord in the first place. What’s astonishing is that they still hadn’t learned the lesson: to surrender rather than resist God.
When you face adversity and hardship, who do you trust? In financial strain, do you look first to advisors and markets? In medical trials, do you rely solely on doctors and medicine?
God—and God alone—is the One we must trust. That doesn’t mean we reject the help of others; it means we look to God for provision and guidance above all else. He knows the “why” behind our struggles and the “how” to lead us through them. Put your trust in Him, and He will show you the way! Amen?
Father, You are Almighty God, the Alpha and the Omega! Everything begins and ends with You. May Your sovereign hand guide us in every battle. We trust in You and You alone. Lead us to victory so that You alone may receive the glory. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
