Isaiah 36:13-15 (ESV): “13 Then the Rabshakeh stood and called out in a loud voice in the language of Judah: “Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria! 14 Thus says the king: ‘Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you. 15 Do not let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord by saying, “The Lord will surely deliver us. This city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”
The Lord has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Tim. 1:7). Walk by faith, and the enemy will not gain a foothold.
Isaiah records an incident where the king of Assyria sent a messenger named Rabshakeh, his chief spokesman, to Hezekiah in Jerusalem after capturing the fortified cities of Judah. Rabshakeh was instructed to speak publicly to the people of Judah, proclaiming their impending doom. He told them not to listen to Hezekiah when he claimed that their God would deliver them. His goal was to strike fear in their hearts and cause them to give up.
Did you know the enemy still uses the same tactics today? He aims to instill fear in your heart so you stop walking by faith. When fear comes, we must run to God and trust Him. If we give in to doubt, the enemy will surely rout us. But God is trustworthy and in control. Silence the voice of the enemy by running to your Abba. He will fill you with everything you need to overcome.
Father, thank You for reminding us that You are greater than our enemy. He can do nothing without Your permission, which means we are truly in Your hands. Mold us and shape us as we walk by faith through our fears. In Jesus’ name, amen.
