Jeremiah 23:23-24

Jeremiah 23:23-24 (ESV): “23 “Am I a God at hand, declares the Lord, and not a God far away? 24 Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord.”

God is omnipresent—ever-present—and omniscient—all-knowing. Nothing escapes His sight. Though we cannot see Him, we can certainly sense His presence.

God reminded Judah that while He rules and reigns from heaven, He is also present both nationally and personally. Nothing they did was hidden from Him. Yet, He remained gracious. 150 years prior the prophets of Samaria had given themselves to Baal and led the northern kingdom into ruin. The prophets of Jerusalem were presently playing the harlot.  They had fallen into perverse sexual sin to the likeness of Sodom and Gomorrah. Still, God was near. There were consequences, but He had not given up on them.

God sees everything in your life—every deed, good or bad, and every thought and intent of your heart. Yet He is still near. He sees our sin and disciplines us, but He will not walk away. As He longed for Judah to repent, so He longs for us to repent and be restored. Come to Jesus and confess your sins—that is why He came! Amen?

Father, thank You for being near, even in our sin. Thank You for Your patience and Your endurance in contending with us. Search us today and reveal what we must confess. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen
