Jeremiah 44:11-12 (ESV): “11 “Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will set my face against you for harm, to cut off all Judah. 12 I will take the remnant of Judah who have set their faces to come to the land of Egypt to live, and they shall all be consumed.”
Taking refuge in anyone or anything else is a slap in the face to God. He alone is our refuge and strong tower in every trial. Run to Him, and you will be safe.
The remnant of Judah came to Jeremiah and asked whether God wanted them to remain in the land or flee to Egypt. The Lord spoke through Jeremiah and promised that if they stayed, He would build them up and not tear them down. But instead of trusting His word, they called Jeremiah a liar and fled to Egypt. They sought refuge in a land and before a man who could not protect them. As a result of their disobedience, the Lord pronounced judgment upon them.
Who can protect you from the unknown but God? Who can guarantee your safety in the middle of a war but God? Don’t seek refuge anywhere else, Christian. God has a plan in the middle of your chaos. He alone can promise you security and peace. Run to the Father and seek refuge in Him. He will see you through your trial. Don’t worry—He’s got you!
Father, forgive us for running to someone or something else for safety. You are more than enough for us. Help us trust Your good plan and rest in You while You work it all out. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
