Leviticus 20:26 (ESV): “26 You shall be holy to me, for I the Lord am holy and have separated you from the peoples, that you should be mine.”
Being a chosen vessel of God carries a great level of responsibility. We are called to be holy, that is, set apart and of a completely other, not perfect but distinct, so the world can see God in us!
The nation of Israel is a chosen nation by God to represent His holiness. God would use this people group to reveal His nature and character. He is unlike anything we have to compare Him to in this world and His people are to be the same. That is why He gave the law, to reveal His nature and character. Not as a means of salvation but as revelation. Israel is to be holy, as God is holy, so the world around them can see the nature and character of God.
Did you know God is calling His church to be holy as He is holy (1 Pt 1:15-16)? We are grafted into the olive tree (Ro 11:11-24) and thus a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that we may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called us out of darkness and into marvelous light (1 Pt 2:9). We haven't replaced Israel but are called to the same holiness they were called into, not perfection but distinction. Be holy in conduct Christian, so that the world can see Jesus through you. Amen?
Father, we thank You for the ability to be holy through the Holy Spirit. May we walk in the Spirit so the world can see the distinction we pray in Jesus' name, Amen and Amen.
