Luke 5:4-5

Luke 5:4-5: “4 And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.””

If you want to see miracles in your life, you must trust God and be obedient to His Word. And often, the miracle will lead to a greater revelation of who you are and who Jesus is!

As Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, He saw fishermen washing their nets after an unsuccessful night of fishing. Jesus got into Peter’s boat and, after He finished teaching, told Peter to launch out into the deep and let down his nets for a catch. Peter responded, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” The catch was so great that they filled two boats to the point that they began to sink. Seeing this, Peter fell down at Jesus’ feet and confessed, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” Jesus then told Peter, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.”

How do you respond when Jesus tells you to cast your net? You might think, “I’m no evangelist. I’ve toiled day and night and never led someone to Christ.” Cast your net anyway! You will never experience what Jesus wants to do if you refuse to trust Him and obey His Word. Peter’s experience told him it wouldn’t work, but Jesus’ Word told him to try again. And at the end of it all, Peter found himself at the feet of Jesus with a greater revelation of who he was and who Jesus is. Take Him at His Word!

Father, we thank You for using us in this life. May we never limit what You want to do because of our past experiences. Help us to trust and obey You, even when we cannot see the outcome. In Jesus’ name, amen.
