Matthew 14:28-30 (ESV): “28 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.””
God is all-powerful. Every human fear and circumstance collapses in His presence. That’s why we keep our eyes on Him and not the waves!
The disciples were so hard-hearted toward the multitude whom Jesus wanted to feed that He sent them into a storm on the Sea of Galilee for some circumstantial tenderizing. Late in the evening, Jesus came walking on the water. Peter challenged Jesus, saying, “If it’s You, command me to come to You.” Jesus permitted him, and Peter began to walk on the water until he got his eyes on the waves. That is when he sank. Jesus immediately reached out His hand and took hold of him, saying, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
How do you handle the storms of your life? Where or on whom do you focus? The place you fix your gaze will determine how well you fare in the storm. Don’t look to anyone but Jesus. He is the only One who can overcome your circumstances. There is nothing too hard for Him. Keep your eyes on Him, and you too will walk on the waves of your storm. Amen?
Father, use the storms of this life to accomplish Your purposes in our hearts. Help us to walk by faith in the midst of them and remove any doubt, we pray, in Jesus’ name, amen.
