Matthew 26:63-64

Matthew 26:63-64 (ESV):63 And the high priest said to him, “I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.” 64 Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.””

Truth is often not palatable because it contradicts the ideology of some hearers. We must never allow what we believe to keep us from receiving the truth when it is clearly spoken to us.After

Jesus was betrayed, He was arrested and taken to the high priest’s home. An unjust trial proceeded with the goal of putting Jesus to death. Caiaphas and the elders sought false testimony against Him, but nothing was able to be substantiated until someone testified that Jesus had said He would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days. Caiaphas then asked Jesus if He was the Christ, the Son of God, to which He answered, “You have said so.” Jesus then declared that He would be seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven. In response, the high priest tore his clothes and cried out, “Blasphemy!” He was not willing to hear the truth.

How do you respond to doctrinal truth that contradicts a personal belief? Do you double down on falsehood, or do you receive the truth with gladness? Not a single person on planet Earth has the truth 100% correct. That means we must always surrender ourselves to Scripture, not to our assumptions. This is how we grow. God forbid that we would have a hardened heart like Caiaphas and reject the truth.

Father, we thank You that You confront our false beliefs through Your Word. Help us never to reject a truth You are revealing to us, especially when it contradicts our personal beliefs. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
