Matthew 6:33-34 (ESV): “33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”
Trust is the foundation upon which faith is built. When you lack trust, you lack faith. God is Jehovah Jireh, our Provider. We can trust Him to supply all our needs!
Jesus teaches His disciples about the basic necessities of life and what their mission should be. It would be easy for them to spend all their time worrying about food, water, and shelter (clothing). Yet that is a poor use of time. Jesus says, “Seek first the Kingdom.” God knows what you need and will surely provide it. Our lives should be lived out fulfilling our Kingdom purpose, not worrying about “these things.”
Who are you trusting to provide for you? If it’s all on your shoulders, then you are going to be anxious. What a waste of time! You should concern yourself more with Kingdom work as a matter of priority and trust God to provide for your needs. That doesn’t mean quitting your job and going into full-time ministry, but rather using your job as your ministry. It’s a matter of perspective and priority. Seek first the Kingdom, and “these things” will be added to you.
Father, keep our hearts focused on the Kingdom. We trust You to provide our daily needs. Fill us afresh today with Your Spirit and keep us on mission. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
