Matthew 9:6-7 (ESV): “6 Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, 7 “Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?””
The Father loves to reveal the Son to us. Through His life, the Father shows that Jesus is more than a virgin-born man—the Son of God. He is more than a miracle worker and a healer of sin. He is Immanuel, God with us. The Father reveals Jesus as both the Son of God and God the Son.
After Jesus tells the paralytic that his sins are forgiven, some of the religious leaders present begin to question in their hearts, “Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Jesus then responds, “Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Take up your bed and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins…” Through this ordained miracle, the Father was revealing the true nature of Jesus: He is God the Son.
Who do you say that Jesus is? Is He just a good man who did great things? Was He merely a teacher who lived a humble life? He is so much more. When Jesus asked Peter who He was, Peter declared, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” (Matt. 16:13–17). Thomas called Him his Lord and his God (John 20:27). If Jesus is just a man to you, then you are missing His true identity. Ask the Father to reveal the full nature of His Son to you. You too will come to the conclusion that He is God. Amen?
Father, we thank You for revealing the true identity of Your Son to us. He is God. Let us never see Him as only the Son of God or only God the Son, but help us to rightly see Him as both. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen and amen.
