Nahum 1:15 (ESV): “Behold, upon the mountains, the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace! Keep your feasts, O Judah; fulfill your vows, for never again shall the worthless pass through you; he is utterly cut off.”
A messenger’s job is simple: to deliver the news entrusted to them. How glorious it is when that news is good!
The Lord, speaking through Nahum, declares good news to the people of Judah—that a day is coming when their enemy, the Assyrians, will no longer be a threat. They will be conquered and will never darken Israel’s doorway again. The Lord reminds Judah to keep the Law and walk with Him, lest He need to chastise them again. It was a good day in Judah when Nahum proclaimed this news!
What is the best news you have ever heard? The gospel, hands down, is the greatest news ever. To know that your sins are washed away in Christ is the best news imaginable! Like Judah, our enemy has been defeated by our crucified and risen Savior. Those who trust in Him now become messengers with beautiful feet, proclaiming the peace of God through the gospel. Praise God for faithful messengers who proclaim the Good News!
Father, thank You for sending a messenger into our lives to proclaim good news. Use us to do the same. Fill us with boldness and compassion to proclaim the gospel of peace. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
