Proverbs 16:6 (ESV): “By steadfast love and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the Lord one turns away from evil.”
The forgiveness and atonement of God are the greatest gifts mankind has ever received. They are the manifestation of God’s love toward us. May we fear God properly so that His love and faithfulness will flow through us toward those whom we need to forgive and restore.
Solomon instructs his sons regarding the atonement that God has provided for us. This is a Messianic prophecy that the people of Israel were to anticipate. Because God is faithful and loving, He would provide a way to be saved from sin and death. Solomon goes on to remind his sons that the fear of God would guide them in their daily lives—not only to live for the Lord but also to act like Him toward their fellow man.
How grateful are you for the steadfast love and faithfulness of God? He has not only provided atonement for your sin and released you from the clutches of death through His Son, Jesus, but He has also given you and me the power to live and act just like Him. Walk in the fear of God, and you will not only be a recipient of this great act of mercy and grace, but you will also be an example of His steadfast love and faithfulness toward others.
Father, "thank You" isn’t enough. What You have done for us is beyond words. We pray our hearts would fear You in such a way that we might become just like You. Manifest Your steadfast love and faithfulness in and through us, we pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
