Psalm 16:11

Psalm 16:11 (ESV): “11  You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”

The source of our joy is Jesus. There is fullness of joy in Him. He is our satisfaction, and when we see Him as such, nothing can rob us of our joy. Be content in Him, and you will find joy through every trial.

David endured much personal hardship, from Saul to his own son Absalom. If our joy and satisfaction were based on circumstances, no one would blame David for being discontent and joyless. However, he understood that his circumstances were temporary. David chose to fix his eyes on the Lord, who is our joy and satisfaction, and to keep his heart centered on the right hand of God, where Jesus resides. In Him, David found true and lasting contentment.

How do you maintain joy in the midst of trials? What is your heart depending on for contentment and satisfaction? If we look anywhere other than the right hand of God, we will be discontent and joyless. Jesus is our joy—not our circumstances. He is our source of contentment—not anything earthly. Remember this when life gets hard. It will keep you joyful and satisfied, for in Him, we have all we need. Amen?

Father, we thank You for being our all in all. You alone are our source of joy and satisfaction. Teach us to be content in You. May our hearts never wander from Your right hand. You are enough for us in every moment of our lives. In Jesus’ name, we pray, amen.
