Psalm 23:1

Psalm 23:1 (ESV): “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

People search their whole lives for fulfillment, and when they find God, they find it. The Lord is our all in all. He is our protector, provider, comfort, and peace. No one else but Him will do.

David wrote this psalm as a king, but his reflection was on how a shepherd leads his sheep. David understood this well because he had lived as a shepherd long before he became a king. He knew the care and diligence required to shepherd sheep. They are prone to wander, but a good shepherd will leave the ninety-nine to go after the one.  Jesus, of course, is the Shepherd David was referencing. He is our perfect Shepherd, and He will lead us to all the places we need to be.

Have you found what you are looking for yet? If it is anything other than Jesus, you are in for a big surprise. Only He can complete you. I encourage you to stop looking over the shoulder of your Shepherd for something or someone else. He is more than enough. Allow Him to take His rightful place as Lord in your life, and He will lead you into green pastures and beside still waters. He is the Good Shepherd, and in Him, we shall not want. Amen?

Father, we thank You for completing our souls by grace through faith in Your Son. Help us, O Lord, to place our total trust in You. Lead us as You will, and help us to experience total satisfaction wherever that might be. We pray in Jesus’ name, amen.
