Psalm 3:3-4

Psalm 3:3–4 (ESV): “But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. I cried aloud to the Lord, and he answered me from his holy hill.

The Lord is our refuge and our protector. We fear no one but Him. He is able to shield and console us in the midst of chaos and distress. Keep your eyes on Him, and you will see His protective hand over your life.

David wrote this Psalm during a time of incredible distress. He was fleeing the sword of his son, Absalom. According to 2 Samuel 15, Absalom led a rebellion made up of David’s friends and associates. He was so cunning that he “stole the hearts of the men of Israel.” This just goes to show how fickle man can be. David fled from this coup to the wilderness, where he sought the Lord for help. He knew the Lord would not only hear him but also answer him. His trust was in God alone.

Do you have this kind of confidence in the Lord? He is our shield against the fiery darts of our enemies. He will not only protect us but encourage us as well. He will not just hear our cries for help, but He will answer us. This is the confidence we can have because God is faithful. Don’t fret over your circumstances. Run to the Lord and trust in His strong right hand. He’s got you! Amen?

Father, we thank You for being our shield and refuge. You are truly the One who sticks closer than a brother. Build our faith to have the confidence of David, knowing that You will not only hear our cries but also answer them. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.
