Matthew 5:9 (ESV): “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”
The great need in the human heart is peace with God. We lack peace because we are at enmity with Him. Through Jesus Christ, the hostility between God and man is removed. Because of His death and resurrection, those who trust in Him can be reconciled to God. Having received that peace, we now become peacemakers in the world through this message.
The seventh Beatitude is peacemaking. It carries the idea of endeavoring to reconcile those who have disagreements with one another. Biblical peace is not simply the absence of conflict—it is the presence of right relationship. The greatest conflict in the universe was between sinful humanity and a holy God. Yet God Himself took the initiative to resolve that conflict through the cross. Therefore, we are called to be peacemakers with the gospel, for we are sons of God.
Are you living as a peacemaker today? The world is full of conflict, division, and hostility. But those who have received peace with God have the privilege of bringing that peace to others. Look daily for opportunities to bring the inner peace of the Prince of Peace into the hearts of those who are at enmity with God. True sons reflect the nature of their Father. Just as God is a peacemaker, so too must we be peacemakers.
Father, thank You for providing a means of peace through Your Son. Faith in His death and resurrection is what provides us this peace. Give us opportunities to share this glorious message with others as we desire to be like our Father. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
