Zechariah 4:12-14 (ESV): “12 And a second time I answered and said to him, “What are these two branches of the olive trees, which are beside the two golden pipes from which the golden oil is poured out?” 13 He said to me, “Do you not know what these are?” I said, “No, my lord.” 14 Then he said, “These are the two anointed ones who stand by the Lord of the whole earth.””
Every person in the body of Christ has a role of service to fulfill. We are appointed and anointed to serve God and His people here and into eternity. This is part of our worship to Him.
Zechariah was given a vision of two olive trees. From them came two branches, which represent two servants appointed by God to stand by Him. There is both a near and a far fulfillment of this prophecy. The near fulfillment speaks of Zerubbabel and Joshua the high priest. The far fulfillment will occur during the Tribulation Period, when the two witnesses come and display God’s power on the earth (Rev. 11:3–11). God always has servants by His side, ready to do His will.
How are you currently serving God and His people? There is no shortage of work to be done, and there are certainly things we are all called to do. But what is your lane specifically? God will appoint you to a very specific ministry, and He will also anoint you to fulfill it. Jesus is our example. He came not to be served, but to serve. Let’s follow in His footsteps. Amen?
Father, what a blessing it is to serve You and Your people. Appoint and anoint us to be servants for Your glory and honor. We pray this in Jesus’ name, amen and amen.
