Zechariah 6:12-13 (ESV): “12 And say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, “Behold, the man whose name is the Branch: for he shall branch out from his place, and he shall build the temple of the Lord. 13 It is he who shall build the temple of the Lord and shall bear royal honor, and shall sit and rule on his throne. And there shall be a priest on his throne, and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.” ’”
The Messiah was prophesied to come not once, but twice. His first coming was a mission of sacrifice—to lay down His life and save the world. His second coming will be the enthronement of the King and the establishment of His earthly kingdom. Are you ready?
Zechariah was shown something that many of Israel’s religious leaders failed to see—the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. He is called the Branch because He is the rightful descendant of David, the promised King. The Branch speaks of life, fruitfulness, and hope. One day, Jesus will be crowned King and will reign as High Priest at the same time. He will rebuild the Temple, sit upon His earthly throne, and rule for a millennium. This is not poetic imagery—it is God’s sovereign plan for the redemption and restoration of mankind.
Until that day comes, we are not to be idle. As we await the return of King Jesus, we are commanded to be about the King’s business—and that business is making disciples. A day is coming when our labor will cease and our rest will begin, but that day is not today. Today is the day to work. Today is the day to proclaim Christ. Today is the day to call sinners to repentance and faith.
Christian, the window of opportunity is closing. Souls hang in the balance. Do not waste your life on temporary things when eternal souls are at stake. Double down on disciple-making while you still can. Lift your eyes. Redeem the time. The King is coming—and He will soon ask what we did with what He entrusted to us. Amen?
Father, what a faithful and gracious God You are. You sent Your Son to redeem us, and You have promised that He is coming again to reign. Until that day, strengthen our resolve. Give us boldness, urgency, and compassion for the lost. Open doors today for us to proclaim Jesus Christ. We ask this in His mighty name, amen.
