1 Chronicles 17:1-2

1 Chronicles 17:1–2 (ESV): Now when David lived in his house, David said to Nathan the prophet, “Behold, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the Lord is under a tent.” 2 And Nathan said to David, “Do all that is in your heart, for God is with you.”

Just because something seems good and reasonable to you doesn’t mean God feels the same about it.   Be careful not to assume with is right in your eyes is what God has planned.  It's important to seek Him and not presume with human wisdom.

David was bothered that he lived in a cedar home while the Ark of God dwelt in a tent.   The Tabernacle was God’s design, and therefore the way He desired to be worshipped.  It also made a lot of sense while the Israelites were in the wilderness.  However, now that they were in their permanent land, David felt that the Ark should dwell in a permanent structure. David’s plan seemed good and reasonable to Nathan the prophet, but not to God!  Nathan’s counsel was presumptuous.   God was flattered by the offer, but David’s hands were soiled in blood.  He wouldn't be the one to build the Temple, Solomon would be.

Are you presumptuous when giving counsel to others?  Do you tend to go with what seems good and reasonable to you?  Be careful that you don't confuse human wisdom with Godly wisdom.  Things might seem right to you, but you’re not God!  Seek the Lord before you answer and Him to show you what He wants per His will.  Amen?

Father, forgive us for being presumptuous at times.   Help us to tread carefully when giving counsel.   May our hearts be right and our minds anointed so that we can speak rightly on your behalf we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
