1 Kings 1:50 (ESV): 50 And Adonijah feared Solomon. So he arose and went and took hold of the horns of the altar.
Coups have always existed. Assassination attempts and overthrows were always a thing. Even more constant than all of this is the fact that God has never left His throne. He appoints the king. Never forget that.
After David learned of Adonijah's scheme to overthrow his throne, he anointed Solomon as king of Israel. Then Solomon, riding on David’s mule, came with Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, to Gihon. They blew the horn and shouted, “Long live King Solomon.” The people of Israel celebrated with him. When Adoninah heard this, fearing Solomon, he ran to the altar for safety. Solomon promised not to harm him if he stopped the shenanigans. Adoninah paid homage to Solomon and went to his home.
How are you processing the coup in our country? There is a clear agenda in the political realm, but we must not fear. We trust in God Almighty, the one who rules and reigns from on high. We look to King Jesus to save our nation. He will appoint the proper person to the big chair. May we keep our eyes on Him, while doing our part. May peace come upon all of us as we look to the One who is in control.
Father, help us. We are in desperate need of Your sovereign hand to move mightily in our nation. Use Your Church as You will. May peace come upon this land, and in our hearts, we pray in Jesus' name, Amen, and Amen.
