1 Kings 17:2–5 (ESV): 2 And the word of the Lord came to him: 3 “Depart from here and turn eastward and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, which is east of the Jordan. 4 You shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.” 5 So he went and did according to the word of the Lord. He went and lived by the brook Cherith that is east of the Jordan.
Where God guides, He provides. We can trust God to take care of what we will eat, what we will wear, and where we will live. All we have to do is seek first the Kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you (Matt 6:33).
Israel and Judah went through many evil kings, but none was more wicked than Ahab. He began to reign in Israel during the thirty-eighth year of Asa, king of Judah. Elijah the prophet came to Ahab and told him, “There shall be neither dew or rain these years, except by my word.” Ahab had made Baal, the weather god, the main object of worship in Israel. God would strip this false idol of its demonic power by changing the weather only through Elijah. The Lord then promised to provide for Elijah during this time of drought. He told him to go to the wilderness and the ravens would bring him food. God provided just as He said He would.
Do you trust God to provide for you in times of trouble? Many rely on themselves, so they store up food and supplies as if God will fail to provide. We are called to seek first the kingdom and His righteousness. That means we are to trust that God will provide for us. It's not wrong to have some extra food and supplies. However, it is wrong to make these things the object of our trust. Do God’s work and don't worry about anything else. Where He guides, He provides!
Father, forgive us for trusting in ourselves. You have never failed to keep Your promises to us. Help us to do Your will and be anxious for nothing for You have our back we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
