Matthew 5:17-18

Matthew 5:17-18 (ESV): 17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.”

The Law gives us a clear mirror—it shows us exactly where we stand before God. And the standard is perfection. One failure, one slip, and we fall short. The Law was never meant to save us; it was given to expose us, to reveal that we are not righteous on our own.

That’s why Jesus came. He didn’t come to abolish the Law, but to fulfill it completely. Every step He took was in perfect obedience—never once failing in thought, word, or deed. He accomplished what no one else could, living the perfectly righteous life we could never live. Establishing a means of righteousness for us.

Has the Law revealed your need for righteousness?   The good news is that it's available through Jesus. Through His perfect life, sacrificial death, and victorious resurrection, Jesus satisfied every requirement of the Law on our behalf. What we could never earn, He now offers freely—His righteousness given to us by grace through faith. So the question is, where is your trust?

Father, thank You for the clarity of Your Law—it shows us our sin and our need for a Savior. Thank You for sending Jesus to do what we never could. Help us to rest fully in His finished work and not in our own efforts. We look to Him alone for righteousness and salvation. In Jesus’ name, amen.
