1 Kings 17:8-9

1 Kings 17:8–9 (ESV): 8 Then the word of the Lord came to him, 9 “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to feed you.”

Obedience to God leads to blessings and miracles.  Disobedience, on the other hand, leads to curses and correction.  As it is written, “To obey is better than sacrifice.”

Elijah was instructed by God to visit Zarephath of Sidon.   The Lord would provide for him there.  Zarephath only had a handful of flour and a little oil.   When Elijah showed up she was about to prepare her final meal for her son and herself, and then they would wait to die of starvation.  Elijah said, make me a small cake first and your flour and oil will not run out until then Lord sends rain.  She had a choice to either trust in what she could see or put her faith in God who is working in the unseen world.  She chose to put her faith in God, and she was blessed!

Are you walking in obedience or disobedience?   Are you walking by faith or by sight?  You will never be blessed if you don't trust God and walk by faith.  He is pleased when you do so and He shows up mightily and miraculously.  Stop listening to yourself and listen to God. It's the path to a way better life. Amen?

Father,  help us to walk by faith and not by sight.  May we be obedient to You and watch You do the impossible.  We trust You, God!  Show Yourself strong through me today.  I pray in Jesus' name, amen.
