1 Samuel 16:7

1 Samuel 16:7 (ESV): 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

God sees what no one else sees. He looks at our inside appearance while we look at the outward. Work diligently to impress the Lord with your inward appearance rather than man with your outward.

Samuel was sent to Bethlehem to anoint God’s new king for Israel. He would arise from the house of Jesse. When Samuel saw Eliab, the eldest son, he was certain he was the one because of his outward appearance. This was the same methodology that Israel used to choose Saul as their king. The Lord rejected Eliab because of his inward appearance. David was His chosen vessel. His inward beauty was pleasing to God. God doesn't look at the outward but at the heart.

What does your inward appearance look like to God? He is looking for people to use but He will not use a person that looks great on the outside but is a trainwreck inwardly. He is looking for loyal hearts that He might show Himself strong (2 Chron 16:9). This is why it's so important to keep your heart with all diligence. Maintain a humble heart. Love God with ALL your heart. This is how we grow in our beauty inwardly. Finally, be obedient to God and you will be a prime candidate for His work. Amen?

Father, we ask that you search our hearts even now Lord, and see if there be any wicked way in them. Wash us clean today and help us to be committed to working on our inward beauty by spending time with You. May Your Spirit mold us into the image of Your Son we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
