1 Samuel 29:6-7

Writer's picture: Tim RomeroTim Romero

1 Samuel 29:6–7 (ESV): 6 Then Achish called David and said to him, “As the Lord lives, you have been honest, and to me it seems right that you should march out and in with me in the campaign. For I have found nothing wrong in you from the day of your coming to me to this day. Nevertheless, the lords do not approve of you. 7 So go back now; and go peaceably, that you may not displease the lords of the Philistines.”

Those who belong to God will never be accepted by the world, even when they go to battle with them.  This rejection is meant to protect us!

The time came for the Philistines to go to war with the Israelites. At En-dor, Samuel told Saul that he and his sons would die in this battle.  David was living with the Philistines at this time where he had taken refuge from Saul.  He and his men assembled with them for battle. When the other rulers of the Philistines saw David they rejected him.  They were afraid that David and his men would turn on them in battle.  Thus, David was sent back to Ziklag by King Achish.

Have you ever tried to mingle with the world as a Christian?  You will get nothing but bad vibes even when you live among them.  Believers don’t fit in with the world because they have the light within them.  What fellowship can light have with darkness?  The rejection one such as this will feel is from the Lord.  He is protecting His own from getting too comfortable in the world. If that is you, stop squandering your time and live for the Lord, amen?

Father, You are more than enough for us.  May the world grow strangely dim in our hearts.  Turn eyes upon Jesus and keep them there we pray in Jesus' name, amen.
